The Soul of the Rose
About the Artwork
Step into a world of romantic longing and Pre-Raphaelite beauty with The Soul of the Rose, John William Waterhouse’s 1908 masterpiece inspired by Alfred Lord Tennyson’s poem Maud. In this tender, contemplative image, a young woman leans into a blooming rose on a garden wall: lost in its fragrance, its memory, and the emotions it stirs.
