About the Artwork

The artist drew inspiration from Ovid's Metamorphoses, specifically the tale of Circe's vengeful transformation of her romantic rival Scylla into a sea monster; this painting served as a companion piece to his earlier 'Circe Offering the Cup to Odysseus,' exploring the sorceress's dual nature as both seductress and destroyer.
