About the Artwork
Portrait of Greta Prozor – Henri Matisse, 1916
Framed Canvas Reproduction
This intense framed canvas reproduction of Henri Matisse’s Portrait of Greta Prozor has undergone meticulous digital restoration, perfectly capturing the severe, elegant structure and the psychologically profound mood of the original. The restoration revives the stark contrasts between the luminous yellow-gold background and the severe, flat blocks of blue and grey that define the figure. This meticulous attention ensures this portrait comes to life on canvas with stunning authenticity, preserving its status as a key work of Matisse's transitional, Structural Modernist period. In Portrait of Greta Prozor, painted in 1916, Henri Matisse captures the actress Greta Prozor, an intelligent and sophisticated figure in the Parisian avant-garde theater world. This portrait is a definitive example of Matisse's work during the years of World War I, when his style became notably austere, structural, and architecturally simplified, marking a move away from the lush colors of Fauvism toward a more rigorous, Cubist-influenced formal language.
