Flowers and Ceramic Plate (Fleurs et plat en céramique) – Henri Matisse, 1913

Framed Canvas Reproduction

This intense framed canvas reproduction of Henri Matisse’s Flowers and Ceramic Plate has undergone meticulous digital restoration, perfectly capturing the bold, abstract simplification and the intense, monochromatic blue palette of the original. The restoration revives the dynamic brushwork, the stark geometric shapes, and the dramatic emotional intensity of the scene. This meticulous attention ensures this masterpiece comes to life on canvas with stunning authenticity, preserving its status as a pivotal work of Matisse's transitional, Structural Modernist period. In Flowers and Ceramic Plate, painted in 1913, Henri Matisse demonstrates his radical experimentation during his transition from the vibrant color of Fauvism to a more structural, severe, and Cubist-informed language. The work takes a traditional still life subject—flowers and domestic objects—and transforms it into an exercise in pure form, color, and design.

The composition is dominated by an overwhelming field of deep, expressive blue, which serves as both background and atmosphere. The still life objects—a round, dark green plate or mirror, a patterned cloth, and a blue pot of flowers—are reduced to strong, abstracted shapes defined by thick black lines. The flowers themselves are rendered in vivid, clashing colors (orange, red, yellow) that create small pockets of Fauvist intensity against the surrounding monochrome. This powerful use of a unified, somber color field emphasizes the geometric structure and psychological mood of the moment.

This premium framed canvas reproduction powerfully conveys the gravitas, formal strength, and psychological depth of Matisse’s original. It is an exceptional statement piece for any sophisticated living space, perfectly suiting intellectual, abstract, or boldly modern decor styles.
