Painted during De Morgan's most productive period in the mid-1880s, this canvas emerged when the artist was establishing herself as a leading voice in the second generation of Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood adherents. Working from her studio in Chelsea, De Morgan created this allegory during a time when she was exploring themes of spiritual transformation and the tension between earthly love and divine purpose; the painting reflects her deep engagement with Renaissance imagery and her husband William De Morgan's interest in classical mythology. Love's Passing exemplifies De Morgan's unique position within Victorian art as a woman artist who could command both technical excellence and profound symbolic content, creating works that resonated with contemporary audiences while challenging conventional narratives about feminine artistic capability.

Our museum-grade giclee reproduction captures the subtle gradations between the golden highlights on Love's wings and the deep shadows beneath the riverside vegetation, preserving De Morgan's delicate brushwork in the translucent drapery folds and the reflective water surface. The archival cotton canvas retains the painting's full tonal spectrum from the rich burgundy of Love's robes to the pale lavender of the distant mountains, while our digital restoration from high-resolution museum photography has recovered color accuracy and fine detail that standard poster prints cannot approach. The ornate composite frame, finished in warm gold tones, perfectly complements the painting's palette of coral, amber, and twilight blue, creating a presentation worthy of De Morgan's sophisticated symbolic vision.
