About the Artwork
Painted during the height of Anderson's career in the 1860s, this work reflects her position as one of the few successful female artists of the Victorian era who managed to exhibit regularly at the Royal Academy. Anderson's focus on idealized feminine subjects surrounded by flowers became her signature approach, appealing to middle-class sensibilities while demonstrating her sophisticated understanding of color harmony and atmospheric effects.
