A field of muted, near-white canvas is divided by a lattice of thin black lines, running strictly horizontal and vertical, never diagonal. The grid is irregular rather than uniform: some cells are narrow slivers, others open into wider rectangles, so the eye keeps recalculating the rhythm of the surface. There is little colour incident here; the interest lies in proportion, in the tension between the black bars and the pale ground they interrupt. Some intersections feel denser, almost knotted, while other areas breathe with open space. Nothing in the picture points toward a horizon or a recognizable object. The surface reads as flat and self-contained, a diagram of balance rather than a window onto a scene. Light does not fall across the canvas so much as it seems to emanate evenly from within it, keeping every line and interval equally legible.
