A field of broken white dominates the canvas, interrupted by a loose grid of black lines that never quite meet at right angles. Within this scaffolding sit irregular blocks of colour: a red rectangle here, a patch of blue there, each one floating slightly off from its neighbours rather than locking into a tidy pattern. The surface is flat, built from planes rather than brushwork, and the eye moves across it the way it might move across a window divided by uneven muntins. There is no horizon, no figure, no single focal point; instead the whole composition works as a balance of weight and colour, asymmetric but settled. White is not a background here so much as an active shape, pressing in against the red and blue until the canvas feels like a puzzle of solids and gaps rather than a picture of anything at all.
