Painted during the pivotal month when America entered World War I as an ally to Britain and France, this masterwork represents the culmination of Hassam's famous Flag series, which he began in 1916 to document the unprecedented patriotic fervor sweeping through New York City. The artist had established his studio overlooking Fifth Avenue specifically to capture these moments of national unity; this particular canvas commemorates the massive parade held on May 30, 1917, celebrating the formal alliance between the three nations. The painting's bold compositional structure and confident handling of multiple flag motifs demonstrates Hassam's maturity as America's foremost Impressionist painter; it was immediately recognized as a defining work of American Impressionism and acquired by major collectors who understood its dual significance as both artistic achievement and historical document of a transformative moment in American history.

Our archival giclee reproduction on museum-grade cotton canvas preserves the subtle gradations Hassam achieved in the building facades, from the warm honey tones of sunlit stone to the cool purple shadows that define the architectural details. The sophisticated printing process captures the texture of his varied brushwork: the smooth, confident strokes that define the flags' bold geometric patterns and the more broken, atmospheric touches that render the hazy spring light filtering through the urban canyon. The full dynamic range extends from the deep ultramarine shadows between buildings to the brilliant whites of the flag stripes and architectural highlights, maintaining the painting's remarkable sense of depth and movement. Our ornate composite frame, finished in warm antique gold, complements the painting's rich palette while its substantial profile matches the monumental scale and patriotic gravitas of this historic celebration.
