About the Artwork
Created during Morisot's early career, before her pivotal involvement with the Impressionist circle, this work demonstrates her sophisticated understanding of light and atmosphere that would later distinguish her among the movement's founding members. The painting reflects the influence of her mentor Camille Corot while revealing her own emerging voice in the treatment of domestic subjects that would become central to her artistic identity.
