About the Artwork
Created during Mignon's mature period in Frankfurt, this work represents his innovative approach to Baroque still life painting that distinguished him from his Utrecht contemporaries. Unlike the more rigid compositions of earlier Dutch flower painters, Mignon embraced dynamic asymmetry and narrative elements that reflected the influence of his teacher Jan Davidsz de Heem while developing his own more expressive vocabulary.
